Emergency First Aid At Work(EFAW)
This is a work based qualification which is suitable for people who would like to develop skills, confidence and knowledge around treating a verity of minor injuries as well as Basic Life support and the use of AED in the work place.

Learning Outcomes: –
Understand the role and responsibility of a First Aider.
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of a First Aider.
- Describe how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others.
- Identify the need for establishing consent to provide first aid.
- Describe how to complete an accident report form.
- Identify the first aid equipment that should be available in a workplace.
- Describe the safe use of first aid equipment.
Be able to assess an incident.
- Describe how to conduct a scene survey.
- Identify when and how to call for help.
Be able to manage a casualty who is unresponsive and NOT breathing normally.
- Demonstrate how to conduct a primary survey of a casualty.
- Demonstrate how to administer Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) using a manikin.
- Demonstrate the action you would take if an unresponsive casualty started to vomit.
- Demonstrate how to switch on an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and where to place the pads.
- Identify when and how to call for help.
- Identify when to stop Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive and breathing normally casualty.
- Demonstrate how to turn a casualty from face down to face up.
- Demonstrate how to conduct a Secondary Survey.
- Demonstrate how to place a casualty into the recovery position.
- Describe the treatment for a casualty who has fainted.
Be able to manage a casualty who is in seizure.
- Identify the signs of an Absence seizure and a Tonic-Clonic seizure.
- Describe how to treat a casualty who is experiencing an Absence seizure and a Tonic-Clonic seizure.
Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking.
- Describe how to identify a casualty with a partially blocked and a completely blocked airway.
- Administer first aid to a casualty who has a partially blocked and a completely blocked airway using a manikin.
- Describe the procedure to be followed after administering the treatment for a completely blocked airway.
Manage a casualty with external bleeding.
- Identify the types of external bleeding.
- Describe how to control severe external bleeding.
Manage a casualty who is in shock.
- Describe the signs and symptoms of shock.
- Identify how to manage a casualty who is in shock.
Understand how to manage a casualty with a minor injury.
- Describe how to manage a casualty with small cuts, grazes, bruises, splinters and nose bleeds.
- Describe how to recognise the severity of bites and stings.
- Describe how to treat a casualty affected by bites and stings.

First Aid At Work(FAW)
This course enables people to become qualified as the appointed first Aiders in the work place; it is also suitable for people of all ages who would like to gain skills and confidence in treating a variety of major injuries.
